Melva (Ellsworth) Drew

Born In: Dominion

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: March 6th, 2015

Our beautiful and courageous Melva was taken in the arms of the angels with her loving family by her side on Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born, raised and educated in Dominion, she was the twin daughter of the late John and Martha (Thompson) Ellsworth.
Melva had many occupations throughout her lifetime as sales rep for Forest Haven Memorial Gardens and she worked in the healthcare profession for many years. She was also employed with the Town of Dominion as a supervisor of the Summer Beautification and Winter Works Projects and for 20 years, Melva was a professional floral designer at the family owned business, Ellsworth Flowers in Glace Bay.
Melva was of strong faith and deeply involved in her parish as a member of St. Eugene’s parish council, the cemetery committee, the CWL social committee and Archway Project and she especially enjoyed dressing up as the Easter Bunny and passing out chocolate bunnies to the children with Father Dan following mass on Easter Sunday. Melva loved the people and her community and if asked, would never refuse to do a chore or give whatever she had “Even the shoes off her feet”. Melva was known as the lady to bring laughter to others and throughout the years, she had left her lasting memories to so many who knew her. Melva was known for her kindness, sense of humour and smile and looked forward to being with friends for Thursday Night Darts. She looked forward to fishing in Loch Lomond with Susie, Gert and Sharon and her morning visits for coffee from Doug, Elsie and Keri. Summer gardening was her pride and she took enjoyment from sharing gardening tips with her daughter, Debbie. She especially loved the first arrival of the humming birds in the spring and swimming in her pool. Melva loved animals, especially her beloved cat, Jeep.
Melva was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. With broken hearts and left to mourn are her daughter, Debbie (Doug) Corbett and son, John, Dominion; granddaughter, Deena (Mark); grandson, Keith. Melva will be sadly missed by her side kicks and love of her life, twin sister, Gertrude and sisters, Marg and Eileen (Steve) McCormick, Ajax; brothers, Joe and Donald 'Duck', Dominion and many nieces and nephews.
Melva was predeceased by her husband, Bill; grandson, Sheldon; sister, Jean and brothers, Richard, George and Jim.
Cremation has taken place upon request and the funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 at Immaculate Conception Church Dominion, Fr. Daniel Bourdreau officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Luncheon to follow in the church hall.
