It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Bill McDonald on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Dominion, Bill was the son of the late Murdock and Nellie (Munroe) McDonald.
Bill was employed with the Glace Bay Bus Company for many years and in the late 1970s he joined the Glace Bay Fire Dept. He volunteered and eventually became a full time engine operator. He held ranks of captain and assistant deputy fire chief throughout his years with the department. Bill enjoyed attending his granddaughter’s hockey games and tournaments. He was also a frequent visitor of Mikes Lunch and Collette’s Restaurant.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Irene (McDonald); son, Paul (Shaunah) McDonald; granddaughter, Rebecca; sister, Norma (Calvin) MacLeod and several nieces.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, March 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Daniel Boudreau officiating. The interment will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
