We, the family of Charles Nicholson, regret to announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in Rockingham, N.S., he was the son of the late Charles and Laura (Curley) Nicholson.
For 12 years, Dad served with the Merchant Marines. Dad also drove and worked for Harrison Crossfield for many years. He also worked for Island Vinyl Siding for 30 years, until his retirement. Dad loved spending time with his family, always cooking up the greatest meals. He also enjoyed fishing and going on hunting trips with his son, Charles 'Buzzy'. Charles was an avid hockey and baseball fan, rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
Charles will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Ruth Ann; children, Charlene (Chad) Hawkins, Mira, Sherry (Paul) Currie, New Waterford, Charles (Juliette) Nicholson, Halifax, Barbara Nicholson, Germany, Timothy Nicholson, Halifax and Cathy Nicholson Jefferson, Quebec. Grampy will also be missed by his eight grandchildren, Abbie, Regan, Michael, Melina, Anna, Will, Joey and Elizabeth. Charlie is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lillian Piercey; sisters-in-law, Donna (Blair) Peckham, Lillian (Les) Noel, Viola (Norman) LeBlanc and Jeanette Nicholson; brothers-in-law, Gerry (Margie) Piercey, Robert (Evelyn) Piercey and David Eddy.
Charles was predeceased by his son, Michael Nicholson; three sisters, Lillian, Mary and Ruth; and four brothers, George, Archie, Darrell and Douglas.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday 11 a.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Charles may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Diabetes Association of Nova Scotia.
Special thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for all the special care they provided to our dad.
