It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our friend, brother and uncle, Monsignor Raymond March at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on March 16th, 2015 in his 90th year. He leaves to mourn his sister, Joan March presentation sister, Presentation Convent, St. John's, his dearest friend Monsignor Roderick White, Corner Brook, his fellow priests and Bishop Hundt, special niece and friend, Herma Compagnon and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis Albert March and Adeline Bourgeois March, his sisters: Florence Cormier, Esther White, Dorothy (Sister Aloise March), brothers: Gerard Albert, Stanislaus, John Duke, Martin, Hubert, Hilary and Fintan. Monsignor March was born at Stephenville and attended school there until grade XII which he completed at St. Bonaventure College in St. John's. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1946 with a BA. He attended St. Augustine's Seminary and ordained as priest for the Diocese of St. Georges in 1950. He was an associate priest at Cathedral Parish, Corner Brook from 1950 until 1958 and served as parish priest in the following parishes; St. Columcille and St. Theresa's from 1958 - July 1965, Maria Regina, Port au Port East from July 1965 - October 1974, Sacred Heart Parish from 1974 to July 1984, Stella Maris, Benoit's Cove, 1984. Saint Catherine of Siena, Halifax, 1986-2000, Truro, Nova Scotia 2000-2004 and St. Stephen's Parish as a retired priest from 2004-2010. Monsignor was named Vicar General on May 24, 1965. Monsignor March was known for his generosity, compassion and his faithfulness to prayer. He loved his parishioners as they loved him. His memory will be cherished by all his family and friends. Funeral will take place at St. Stephen's Church on Thursday, March 19th at 10:00am. Visitation will be held at Russell's Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 18th from 2-4 p.m. and at St. Stephen's Church from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Stephen's Memorial Fund in his memory.
