ZWICKER, MARY MARGARET ANNE (nee GALLAGHER – Woodstock, NB)
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mary Zwicker at St. Vincent’s Hospital, during prayers and surrounded by family, on March 23, 2015.
Leaving to mourn is her husband of almost 59 years, Harvey D. Zwicker. Dear mother to John (Mary); Mary Ellen (Jim) Yeldon; Jamie (Dr. Jill) of Victoria, BC; Rosanne (Luciano) De Luca; and Jerry (Tara) of Carleton Place, ON; cherished Grammy to 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; beloved sister Marjorie Gallagher of Willowdale, ON and brother Bob (Audrey) of Kingsville, ON, as well over 30 nieces and nephews in Newfoundland, Ontario and the USA. She also leaves many dear friends and a host of cousins (54 in courtin’ days).
Mary was predeceased by her parents Katherine Whalen and Jeremiah Gallagher of Woodstock NB, stillborn daughters Mary Anne and Katherine Anne, brothers Francis (Scarborough, ON), Dr. Edward (Fairfax, VA), and sister Evelyn Kennedy (Toronto, ON).
Following High School and a Commercial year, she entered the Bank of Montreal as a Teller where she worked for over 30 years. A formidable force in basketball in Woodstock, and that same tenacious attitude obvious in Halifax and Ottawa bowling leagues, she was known for her speedy delivery and feisty Irish spirit. The Christian values of Convent School have never wavered. She was a 65+ year member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), frequently a member of the Executive, and until recent failing health, was very active in Church related duties. Her Catholic faith and love of God always paramount, was enriched by her near-daily reception of the Eucharist.
A note of appreciation for exemplary care is extended to the staff at TOH (Civic Campus) and St. Vincent’s Hospitals. We must also acknowledge the CCAC, Bayshore Home Health and Paramed teams for their excellent pre-hospital care.
