THORNE, Melvin James – 69 years, Lake Doucette, Digby Co., passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born June 27, 1945 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Royden Stanley and Evelyn Thorne. Melvin worked as a pipefitter and he enjoyed playing cards and watching boxing. He is survived by his children, Michael (Sheila) LeBlanc, Yarmouth; Christine (René) Deveau, Lake Doucette; David LeBlanc (fiancée, Kimberley Bray), Lake Doucette; Melvin Thorne Jr. (fiancée, Heather Hobson), Truro Heights; Lisa (Randy) Frotten, Springdale and Tina Albert, Yarmouth, as well as grandchildren, Elena LeBlanc, Tanya Bright, Shelley Chaisson, Jordan LeBlanc, Landon LeBlanc, Shawna Simpson, Sophie Frotten, Jeremy Frotten, Alexis Albert, Madison Albert and a great grandchild, Jayden Bright. Also surviving are sisters, Shirley (Doug) Sisson, California; Lola Fields and Glenda (Gerry) Stewart, both of Cambridge, Ontario. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marie Theresa Thorne, as well as by a sister, Joan Rideout and a brother, Stanley Thorne. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 23 at H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Rev. Mr. Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Vincent-de-Paul Cemetery, Salmon River. It was requested that there be family flowers only.
