Upon graduating from St. Michael’s High School, Frank attended St. FX graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 and immediately began working with Children’s Aid Society of Cape Breton. In 1970 he earned his Masters of Social Work as a member of the first graduating class of Dalhousie University’s School of Social Work.
Frank dedicated his career to serving his community for over 40 years. Early in his career he was instrumental in the development and management of the Boys Residential Centre in New Waterford as its first executive director with the Children's Aid Society of Cape Breton. After successfully managing the home he transferred to the Dept. of Community Services as its assistant regional administrator and later became the regional administrator of the Eastern Region overseeing the department of community services and the Children’s Aid Society of Cape Breton and Victoria. He retired from this position in 2009.
Because of Frank's knowledge, experience, wisdom and insight he was often called upon by senior administration for his support and guidance. Frank was well respected throughout the province because of his dedication and skills.
Frank was a founding member of the New Waterford Home Care Services and served on its board of directors for several years. He also served on the boards of the Family Services of Eastern Nova Scotia, Savoy Theater, Safe Streets and Communities, Cape Breton County Home Maker’s Agency and several other boards important to our community. Also, he was one of the leaders of the development of the network for children and youth.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Church where he served as president of the parish council and president of the St. John's Men's club.
Frank was an avid gardener who made the best beets and chow. He loved his lobster, enjoyed fishing, golf and other sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed sharing tall tales with his friends at the OK Corral fire pit. Truly his most cherished time was spent with his grandchildren that he was so very proud of.
The family would like to thank Dr. Guy, Dr. Ley, the nurses and staff of the Glace Bay General Hospital for the kind, caring compassion they showed to Frank.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Curry's Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. There will be no visitation.
