OLGA FOSTER
Olga Foster passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday March 21, 2015; Olga was born in Hafford on May 10, 1930, to Dmytro and Anna Bodnarchuk, the ninth of twelve children. In 1941, she moved with her family to the farm in the Russelville area. Later she attended P.A.C.I. in Prince Albert. Mom lived a busy and full life. First and foremost, she was a mom and homemaker, but worked hard to support her large family. Mom taught us the value of hard work, trustworthiness, patience, and compassion. She believed that better things always lay ahead. After working several jobs, she set an example for us by going back to school as an adult before securing her position with the government as an accounting clerk. She worked in that position until her retirement in 1992. Mom was an excellent cook and baker; no one made cabbage rolls or borscht quite like hers. Her bread and matrimonial cake were incomparable. Holidays at Mom’s house meant a weight gain. It was when she went back to school; she met her closest friends and lifelong confidantes, Myrna, Wendy, and Zella. Together they had a myriad of adventures, sharing birthdays and celebrations, travelling and sharing new experiences. Mom loves the “girls.” It was through Myrna, Mom met Fergie. After Mom retired, she moved to Duck Lake with the true love of her life, Fergie. Together they built a new home where they worked on the garden and the yard during the warmer months. She was happiest, busy in her flower gardens and it was evident in the beauty of her yard. Together they dug, planted, and put up all kinds of birdbaths, feeders, and houses. She loved to watch the hummingbirds return each spring. Mom loved her annual corn roasts. She prepared well in advance to make sure everyone was able to attend. We ate, played, and shared stories. This is the time when she would share the fruits of her labour, giving us fresh produce from her garden. During the colder months, she would challenge visitors to games of dice or cards or spend time crocheting snowflakes for our Christmas trees. Quieter times were spent working with Fergie on jigsaw puzzles or puzzle books. Mom helped plan the house at Fenton, when it was complete brought her passion for gardening and her love of birds with her, as they joined Darlene and Rick. There she was able to carry out or supervise many yard and garden projects. Olga leaves to cherish her memory; her devoted husband Matthew (Fergie); her children Milton Fisher (Karen) and his son Ryan, Jean (Greg Ramage) and their children Carly, Kerry, Jesse, Linda Fisher, Darlene Handley (Rick Parenteau) and their children Andrew and Danelle, Patty Herriot (Dwight Desormeau) and her children Allen, Jenny, Sarah, Kirk Handley (Connie) and their children Corey, Aaron, George Handley (Joy) and their son Aiden, Bonnie Thurston (Ray) and her children Amy-Lynn, Courtney, Haley, Darwin Handley and his son Noah, Kendall Handley and his daughters Kyline, Kelsi and Kendra; as well as numerous great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Madge MacDonald (Andy), Jessie, and Jean (Alan); brothers-in-law Bill Foster and David Foster (Sheila); sisters, Katie, Ann, brother Alex and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her first husband Joseph (Bud) Fisher, son-in-law Ken Herriot, brothers Peter, Walter, Roman; sisters Minnie, Margaret, Mary Sophie, Pauline. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 at River Park Memorial Chapel. Reverend Nora Vedress will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date.
