It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, Pearl Isabel Long, 93 , on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at The Cove Guest Home, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Anne (MacGillivary) MacAskill.
Pearl was a kind and generous person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to cook, to bake, and to play many games of cards and she took great pride and joy in winning! Pearl also loved to bowl and she treasured the many friendships she made over the years at the alleys. Pearl will be missed by all who knew her.
Pearl is survived by sisters, Margaret Crane, Caddie (Fred) Roberts, both of Ontario and Normie Bona, Sydney; her children, Theresa (Harry) Morrison, Maureen (Amos) Donovan, Howie (Carol), Sydney; Robert, Ontario; grandchildren Carla (Brad), Melanie, Coady (Melissa), Trevor (Angela), Tammy (Mike); 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pearl is also survived by a special cousin, Jackie DeVries.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, John ‘Shorts’; her son, John Jr.; her brothers, Murdock and Angie; her sister, Gertie and great-granddaughter, Amanda Lynn.
The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the staff of Seaview Manor and The Cove Guest Home; especially Mary Rose, whose kindness and compassion to Mom went above and beyond.
Visitation for Mrs. Long will take place from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 29 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 40 Cabot St., with Fr. Bill Burke officiating.
Donations may be made to the Horizon Achievement Centre, 780 Upper Prince St., Sydney, N.S., B1P 5N6 or charity of one’s choice.
