It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend Mary Margaret Hastie, 85, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, Mary was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bridget (Lemoine) Connolly.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. Mary enjoyed playing bingo, card games, doing puzzles but most of all spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her children, sons, John (Anne) Hastie, Marion Bridge, Johnson (Jane) Hastie, Hillside Boularderie; daughter Helen Hastie (Grant), North Sydney; her brother William 'Bill' (Heather) Connolly, North Sydney; her sisters, Gladys Gillis, Georges River, Louise Lemoine, Sandra MacKinnon, both of North Sydney, Lucy (Cecil) Horton, Upper North Sydney; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Connolly and Joyce MacQueen, both of Sydney Mines, also by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Johnson Hastie, brothers, Jim (Elizabeth) Connolly, Fred Connolly, brothers-in-law Richard Gillis, Carmen Devito, also by her close friend and sister-in-law Carmelita Hastie.
Special thanks to Melissa, Krista, Audrey for their special attention given to Nan. Also thanks to the healthcare team of CCU & IMCU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and staff of Northside Homemakers.
Visitation for Mary will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
