Hector Caleb Huntington, of Harold Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (MacKinnon) Huntington.
A veteran of the Second World War, Hector served in England with the RCAMC. He was employed in the pharmacy department at Pollett’s Drug Store, retiring after 50 years of service. Hector was a member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney, the Masonic Lodge, St. Andrews #7, the Prince of Wales, Chapter #10 and the former St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. Many summers spent on the Mira were enjoyed with family and friends.
Hector is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred (MacLeod) and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant son and daughter. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Hector was predeceased by his sisters, Ann, Phemie and Violet and brother, Herbert.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., with a masonic service held at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the United Heritage Church on Thursday 11 a.m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
