Lois Phyllis MacInnis, 83, a resident of Soldier’s Cove, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney on May 25, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James and Clara (Gallant) Spears.
Lois was a member of the former Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier. For many years, she volunteered with St. John Ambulance and the Red Cross. Many tasty treats were shared with her family, friends and the staff at Soldier’s Cove.
Surviving are her daughters, Heather, (the late Jerry) Johnston, North West Arm, Jean (Gardiner) Potter, Sydney and Shirley ( the late Andre) Bennett, Beechmont and son, David, Sydney. Gram will be deeply missed by her loving and devoted grandchildren, Danielle Carmichael, Brent Johnston, Aaron and Garth Potter, Jenna and April Bennett and Emily and Austin MacInnis and great-grandchildren, Declan, Rohan and Maeve Carmichael. Her grandchildren will remember a grandmother who always made them feel that they were a very special part of her life and enjoyed listening to the many stories she shared with them. She is also survived by her sister, Percillia Ferguson, Sydney and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lois was predeceased by her husband, Wilbert 'Bunt', son, James, granddaughter, Rebecca, sister, Hazel Jones and brother, John.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, 11 a.m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Memorials may be made to palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
