Edward McCarthy

MCCARTHY, EDWARD "MARVEN"
Proud "Papa". Travel agent and tour guide. Fundraising expert. Guardian of Middle Island. Champion of all things Irish-Canadian. Behind-the-scenes politico. Amateur sports advocate. Generous Christian. Amazing husband, dad, grandfather, son and brother.

Edward "Marven" McCarthy, of Chatham, New Brunswick, passed away suddenly, but peacefully on March 26, 2015 in Orlando, Florida surrounded by his family. The illness that took him from us struck as he was getting ready to celebrate a very special day to him ... St. Patrick’s Day. He was 70.

Marven is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann (nee Harriman) and their children Rob (Marilyn), Diane (Simon), Kevin (Julie) & Chris (Lisa). Papa will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Lauren, Lindsay, Daniel and Nicholas.

Marven was born on "The Hill" to Margaret (nee Maillet) and Dunn McCarthy and proudly lived his entire life on the Miramichi. He was predeceased by his parents and older sister Mary Alice and survived by his sisters Shirley Ann and Rhona and brother Walter.

Marven's life journey was to teach. It was his profession and his passion. He taught high school math to thousands of Miramichiers at James M. Hill Memorial High. He recounted Irish history and traditions to hundreds of European tour participants and visitors to Middle Island. He shared the rules of engagement for young ticket takers and card sellers at the CRC Bingo every Tuesday night and he imparted many life lessons to the hundreds of athletes on teams he coached and managed over the years.
Our loss is Heaven's gain as we now know that the next baseball tournament in the sky is going to be the best organized and most attended that eternity has ever seen.

-Sláinte Marven.
