CLOSE, ROY
1919 - 2015
Roy Close passed away peacefully at Monarch Hall Nursing Home on April 1, 2015, at the age of 95. Born in Salisbury, NB, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude (Lounsbury) Close.
He was one of eight children and is survived by sister Estella Douthwright, brother Allison (Clara) and sister in law Kay Close. He was predeceased by sisters; Annie and Ruth, brothers; Gordon, Stanley, and Wilfred.
Roy served overseas as a Sergeant with the Carleton York Regiment during WWII. Not only did he serve his country but he met his bride, Joyce Richardson. Joyce died in 1992 after 49 happy years of marriage. After returning home from the war Roy was employed with the Unemployment Service Commission for 39 years until his retirement in 1981. After retirement he kept busy with gardening, woodworking, some travelling, and developing an interest in fitness and nutrition. He enjoyed nature, scenery, Sunday drives and daily walks. He enjoyed bowling and darts with the Riverview Veterans Association. He was a member of Men’s Club at St. John the Baptist Church in Riverview and Legion Branch 4 of Moncton.
Most of all Roy loved his family, always available to support, guide or encourage. Roy was an appreciative, generous, kind father who will be sadly missed by sons; Bruce (Dorothy) of Dartmouth, Brian (Karen) of Saint John and daughter Brenda Gibson (Don) of Dartmouth. He was a wonderful grandfather to six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating Roy’s life will be held in the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 1:00pm with interment to follow at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow in the Garden View Room. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530.
