MAHONEY, John Daniel: Golfer, world traveller, grandfather. Passed away at age 66 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on April 2, 2015. A life-long New Glasgow resident, John was a son of Jack and Betty Mahoney. He retired from a career in sales, most recently at H. Paulin & Co. He was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Abercrombie Golf and Country Club. He loved to spend time fly fishing on the local rivers and the beautiful Margaree. He travelled the world with his wife of 42 years, Marion, and spent winters in Florida and South Carolina after retiring. John was a proud grandfather of five little ones who were the sparkle of his life.
John is survived by his wife Marion; daughter Jill (Cheyenne), Toronto; son Matthew (Nancy), Sackville, N.B.; grandchildren Finn, Alice, Callie, Cian and Jane; sister Carol Mitchell (Ernie); brothers Leith (Mabel), Terry (Teresa), Glen (Ramona); brother-in-law John MacGregor (Arlene); sister-in-law Edith Turner; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Stephen (Margaret).
Cremation has taken place under the care of H.W. Angus Funeral Home. Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow. Family flowers only.
