NEW GLASGOW – Robert Alfred “Bob” Cullen, age 91, of New Glasgow, formerly of Little Harbour, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015, in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late David and Ruth (Withers) Cullen.
Bob worked in the woods with A.T. Logan, operated a service station in Trenton and retired from Clark Tire Ltd. He was a member of Saint George’s Anglican Church and was a member, warden and lay reader at the former Saint Augustine Anglican Church, Trenton. He was former Fire Chief of the Little Harbour Fire Dept. and a member of the Maritime Fire Chiefs’ Association. He served with the Army Service Corp. during WWII and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29, Trenton. He was former President of the Trenton Lions Club; member of the Main Street Bowling League; Abercrombie Golf Club; Westville and Bluenose Curling Clubs where he skipped an 8 ender; board member of the Church Brook and Pioneer Cemeteries and past President of the Little Harbour Community Centre.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marie (Logan); daughters: Ann (Hector) Johnston, Halifax; Jan (Joseph MacPherson), Plymouth; Patricia “Trish” (Bill) Beattie, Calgary; son, Robert (Lorraine), Westville; grandchildren: Donald Cullen, David Cullen, Michael Cullen, Troy Johnston, Leigh MacNeil, Shannon MacNeil; great-grandchildren: Kaitlin, Krista, Isaac, Danica, Santana, James, Lauchie, Blair and Marijane; sister, Ruth (Edward) Savage; brothers: Douglas (Shirley); David (Barbara); Walter (Bessie).
He was predeceased by infant sons, Peter (1951) and David Alfred (1953).
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday in Saint George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Lidvald Haugen-Strand officiating. Burial will be in Church Brook Cemetery. Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Saint George’s Anglican Church, the V.O.N., Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or a charity of choice. Albion Masonic Lodge will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to conduct their service. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
