It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our sister, aunt, and friend Louise Matheson on April 3, 2015, at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care facility.
Born in Sydney, Louise graduated from Sydney Academy’s Business Program and went to work at Maritime Life Insurance Co. She was employed for many years with Mercer Fuels, she retired after 25 years with Devco Coal Corp.
Louise was a longtime member of the Daughter of Mary, the Sydney Lebanese and Syrian Benevolent Society. She enjoyed camping especially the May 24 weekend in Ingonish with the Ingonish weekenders, a 54 year tradition and Dunvegan with her family.
Louise is survived by her sisters, Esther (Alex) Tomko, Karen Boozan (Stuart); brother, Roddy (Brenda) Watkins, all of Sydney; sisters-in-law, Madeline Libbus, River Bougois, Marilyn Ritchie, Terrace, B.C.; brothers-in-law, Donnie (Carol) Matheson, Clearence (Wendy) Matheson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Louise was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Allister Murray Matheson, her father Charles Libbus, mother Violet (Watkins) Libbus, brothers, Joe Libbus, Charles 'Sandy' Libbus and two brothers in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating.
Reception to follow at the Cedars Club. Interment to take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in Louise’s memory may be made to the Alzhemiers Society of N.S.
A very special thanks is sent to the staff of the Fisherman’s Cove Unit of Harbourstone for the very special care of 'Weezie', and also to the recreation department.
