It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of John W. Bruno, 69, on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at home after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, John was the son of the late Eddie and Helen (Riley) Bruno.
From 1966-1999, John worked for the Sydney Steel Corporation, retiring as a roll design engineer. While working, he completed night courses to graduate in 1983 with a B.B.A. from UCCB.
Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret; daughter, Maureen; granddaughter, Dakota “Buddies for life”, whom he loved dearly; aunt, Nina Riley, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Helen Mombourquette, Sydney, Ann Miller, Halifax and Charlotte Miller, Rossland, B.C.; brother-in-law, Donald (Patricia) Miller, Sydney; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, whom he loved dearly and who were so supportive during his time of illness. Their kindness meant so much to him.
The last member of his immediate family, John was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Gerard. He was also predeceased by his nephew, Thomas Bruno.
At John’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Wednesday, April 8 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Neil McKenna officiating, assisted by Rev. James Oliver. Following mass, a reception will be held at St. Theresa’s Parish Hall.
