Amelia 'Wardia' (Khattar) Hajjar
Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: April 6th, 2015
Amelia ‘Wardia’ (Khattar) Hajjar — It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Aunt Wardia, age 96, on April 6, 2015.
A lifelong resident of Sydney, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Elias.
Aunt Wardia was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her father, John and mother, Katherine, as well as her brothers, George, Simon and Joseph and sisters Materia, Lily, Minta’a and Mary.
For years, Aunt Wardia and Uncle Elias owned and operated OK Ladies’ Wear in Sydney Mines. Outside work, Aunt Wardia’s greatest loves were her faith and her family. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada for over 50 years. Of course her home and generous hospitality always attracted us, her many nieces and nephews from across Canada and the U.S., to celebrate family and our Lebanese heritage.
In these last years, Aunt Wardia lived at MacGillivray’s Guest Home where she became a fast friend to both residents and caregivers alike. To all of you, our special thanks and gratitude are due. We now pray that the Lord will warmly welcome Aunt Wardia to share His Heavenly Home and so join those she so dearly loved in this life.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 pm on Friday, April 10 at St. Theresa’s Church.
Donations in her memory can be made to a charity of choice.
