Eagles, Oswald Bennett “Fred”, age 73, of Windsor Forks, Hants County, passed away suddenly, on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with his wife and family by his side. Born on December 12, 1941, in Harmony, Colchester Co., he was a son of the late Frederick and Phyllis (Watson) Eagles. Fred was a graduate of Nova Scotia Teachers’ College, Truro and received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from Acadia University, Wolfville. Fred was a retired school teacher and former principal of Windsor Forks Elementary School, where he taught for over 30 years. He also taught in Avondale, Hantsport and Brooklyn. In his younger days he played an active role in his church where he held positions as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher as well as Youth Leader. Fred was an avid gardener and named his home “Roseridge”, for the more than 100 varieties of roses he planted and nurtured there. Fred is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Verna Helen Hebb; daughter, Charmaine (Michael) Murray, Fletchers Lake; a granddaughter, Rebecca Eagles and her mother, Alicia Wile; his identical twin brother, Wallace “Ted” (Doreen), Martock; sister, Ruth (Jack) Carr, Windsor Forks; half-brother, Randolph Typert (Marilyn Simpson), Avondale; half-sister, Sandra (Dave) Crossley, Red Deer, Alta.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Shawn (2012); brother, Phillip; sister, Pauline; father and mother-in-law, Ivan and Sadie (Leopold) Hebb. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 10, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, B0N 2T0. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Craig Faulkner officiated. A private family interment will be held at a later date in the Vaughans United Church Cemetery, Lower Vaughan.
