It is with deepest sadness that we the family announce the passing of Charlie Roach, 86, of Glace Bay. He passed away peacefully on April 3 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of Warden United church.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John Roach and Annie (MacInnis) Roach.
He is survived by his wife Margie (Duder), children Laura (Darryl Stanwick), Lantz, Nadine (Steve Atkinson), Glace Bay, Charla (Perry MacInnis), Florida, Blenus (Inger), Sweden, Marilyn (Leo Kleeman), Calgary, and grandchildren Adam, Aaron, Markus, Daniel and Jonathan. He is also survived by his brother, Glen (Jean) Roach; sister, Catherine Shea; brother and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Annie Stacia and Catherine Elizabeth in childhood and brothers, Daniel, Duncan, William, John and sister, Laurie.
His working years were as a coal miner for Devco. He spent many years playing baseball, was an avid walker and a life long sports fan. He loved watching and talking about many different sports, especially his Boston Bruins.
Thank you to the staff at the Glace Bay General Hospital and Dr. David Ley. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors in ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. We are especially grateful to nieces Shauna Oldford and Laurie Lynn Ettinger for their immediate assistance when he first became ill, and to all family and his many friends for their support and kind words.
Funeral service will take place on Friday, April 10, 2015, 11 a.m., at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with the Rev. Duncan Roach officiating.
