Frederick Melanson

It is with sadness that we must announce the peaceful passing of Carl Frederick Melanson, age 91, of Amherst. Carl passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in River Hebert, NS, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Ina (Burbine) Melanson.
Carl was a veteran of the Merchant Navy during World War II, and was on a ship that was torpedoed. Carl worked for 35 years for the Iron Workers building bridges and buildings in Ontario, retiring in 1996. Carl enjoyed horses and horse racing. He liked hunting and fishing.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, the former Dolena (Dolly) Reid, Amherst; brother Donald, B.C. ; a sister, Mona, Fredericton; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Burke, Helen O' Brien, Hazel Glennie, Jessie Richard, Sarah & Mazie; brothers, Daniel, Sidney "Sunshine", Frankie, Charlie, Lester.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst and River Hebert, NS (902-667-8777). Visiting hours will take place at the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst, 70 Church St., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will take place from St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church in River Hebert on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 3 pm, Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Following the Funeral Mass, Carl's remains will be cremated and his ashes will be buried in the St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie, NS in the spring. A light lunch in the Parish Hall provided by the Parish will follow the funeral.
