Harris Alden Pipes

With heavy hearts, the family of Harris Alden Pipes, age 87, of Upper Nappan, NS announce his peaceful passing at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Saturday, April 4, 2015, following a brief illness. Born in Upper Nappan, he was a son of the Late Roy and Mabel (Lawrence) Pipes.
Harris was self-employed as a long time farmer, antique dealer and landlord. He attended Amherst Schools and Mount Allison University. An active Mason for over 50 years, he was Past Master of Acacia Lodge #8, Amherst, rising to become Nova Scotia Grand Master in 1988- 1989, a Shriner, he became Potentate of Philae Shriners in 1984, and was Grand High Priest from 1999 - 2000 with Grand Chapter of NS and PEI. He was as well a member of many Masonic Concordant bodies. He was an Emeritus Member of the Montreal Shriners Hospital for Sick Children. A member of the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, the Masonic Society and a 15 year volunteer with the Amherst Food Bank. He was well known for his "Red Hat" and generosity.
Survived by his wife Sheila (Mills), Upper Nappan, son, Alan (Connie) Pipes, Upper Nappan and will be ever remembered as their special Papa by Emily and Cory and special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Lawrence and Gerald.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 7 to 9 pm and Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held from the funeral home on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2 pm. Burial will take place in the Amherst Cemetery in the spring.
