ABERCROMBIE – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Sterling “Dale” Tomlinson, 84, of Abercrombie who passed away on April 7, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Stellarton, he was the son of the late Leslie and Clara (Wilson) Tomlinson.
In his early years, Dale was a coal miner, then an infantryman with the RCD. Following this, he worked in construction for a number of years; eventually finishing his working life as a special needs school bus driver.
“He was the kindest sort and had a heart of gold,” but he will be forever remembered and loved for “his most infectious laugh” and jovial spirit.
Dale is survived by his loving partner Jeannie Jardine, his children: Leo (Karen) Tomlinson, Kingston; Lynda Dale Tomlinson, Riverton; Gloria (Jim) Foley, Edmonton; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his step-children: Derek Jardine, New Glasgow; Donna Jardine, Halifax; Dara (Reg) Luce, Halifax; his brothers Leonard Tomlinson, Grimsby and Cecil (Shirley) Tomlinson, Burlington, as well as his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Harold, his sisters Pearl and Jean and sister-in-law Theresa.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the nursing staff of the Aberdeen Hospital; they are indeed angels. A special thanks as well to Dr. Kirk, Dr. O’Sullivan and Dr. Farrell of the Palliative Care Unit.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service by the request of Dale. Burial will be in the Riverton Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home.
