After a long and well-lived life of love and service to God and family, Wilbert David Burton went to heaven on April 12, 2015, in his 95th year.
Dad was an inspiration to his family and to all who knew him. He was a man of great faith and prayer. He was a lifetime member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys parish (formerly St. Joseph’s).
Dad was born in Margaree Valley, he was the son of the late Robert and Laura (Young) Burton.
Wilbert was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Frances G. (Anthony) Burton, his brothers, Johnny, Donald, Alex, Harold, Lawrence and Joseph, sisters, Mary MacNeil, Clara Hannigan and Georgina Doyle.
He is survived by his children, Gordon (Ann), Dartmouth, Gloria Dawn, Sydney and Marie Murrin (Dana), Coxheath and the last surviving member of his immediate family; his sister Lauretta Ross, Inverary Manor and two sisters-in-law, Mary E. Burton (Alex) and Mary L. Burton (Lawrence). He is also survived by his grandchildren, his precious granddaughter Brandy Lee Buckingham and his grandson ‘The Captain’ Keagan Murrin, Garrett, Matthew, Japan, Andrew, Ontario, and Elizabeth, Saskatchewan. Also left to mourn nephews, Allen Ross and Sheldon Postlelethwaite and his nieces, Joanne Ayire and Barbara Romard who were a great comfort to us all, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Dad retired from Sydney Steel, in February of 1982, after 40 years of service.
Dad was a simple man with a huge loving and caring heart, he only saw the good in everyone. He had a very strong love for his family and his family roots in Margaree Valley.
Special thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt and his nurse Janice Black, Dr. Hall, the staff of Celtic Court (Tartan Lane); special appreciation to his caregiver Heather, who was a great comfort to Dad and all of his family.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date.
