VETTERLI, John
December 16, 1925 – April 13, 2015

John Vetterli of Prince Albert died Monday, April 13, 2015 at the age of 89. He was born to the late Henry and Clara Vetterli, December 16, 1925 in Sennett, SK. John joined the army 5 months before his 16th birthday. A few months later he went overseas. He was an armoured car driver with the 8th Reconnaissance. While on reconnaissance duties he was wounded in the chest by a snipers bullet. A few months later he lost his foot when he stepped on a mine. After a time of hospitalization in England he returned to Canada. After several months of limb fittings and rehab, John was able to return to civilian life. A year later he met the love of his life, Elsie McIntye. They were married April 12, 1947 and to this union had three children. It was John and Elsie’s choice to take up farming in the Steep Creek area. In 1986 they retired to Prince Albert. Their home across from the Golf and Curling Club gave them easy access to their passion for curling and golf. John along with Elsie did a lot of travel across North America with their fifth wheel. Later years due to poor mobility John was forced to give up this life style. John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elsie; his two children Wayne (Linda), Ryan and Jordan; his daughter Terry (Glen) Simonson, Shannon (Tricia), Kennedy and Riley, Mandi (Derek) Melynn, Wade and Blake, Lindsay (Trisha), Jordyn, Zaiden and Rihanna. He is also survived by his sister Betty Adam; his sister-in-law Darlene (Morris) and six brothers-in-law Richard (Zoe), Ben (Lois), Lorne, Dale (Irene), Don (Edwyna), Ron (Sue) and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Henry and Clara Vetterli; his son Lindsay; his sister Helene Thiessen; his father and mother-in-law William and Rosella McIntyre. We would also like to thank Dr. Parekh and the staff in Palliative Care, Victoria Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.

Forever loved and missed by his family
