Catherine Olive MacKinley, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Victoria (Tutty) Roden.
Surviving are her daughters, Patricia, Ontario, Debbie, New Waterford, Dale (Edward), Mount Uniacke and Mildred (John), New Victoria; sons, Kenneth, Sydney, Barry (Norma), Sydney River, Bradley (Crissy), Marion Bridge and Bernie (Elizabeth), Ontario. Catherine is also survived by her sister and best friend, Frances (Cliff), Sydney. Nannie will be missed by her cherished 19 grandchildren, Heather, David, Cheryl, Dawn, Sean, Bruce, Jennifer, Blehr, Jill, Krista, Lynn, Bradley, Jason, Catherine, Benjamin, Kevin, Amanda, Brian and Patrik. She was privileged to have had 23 great-grandchildren.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Peter; daughter, Shirley in infancy; and brother, Harry.
In her earlier years, Catherine worked as a waitress at the Diana Sweets Restaurant, before moving to Marion Bridge where she raised her children. Catherine loved the outdoors, whether it be spending time in her gardens, picking berries or strolling through the woods to the Mira River. She enjoyed knitting and baking and you could always count on there being a pot of tea on.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2 p.m., with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Interment in Oakfield Cemetery at a later date.
We would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Creative Care and Skylight Units at the Cove Guest Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to our mother/grandmother.
