It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Cornelius 'Con' Drake, age 80, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at his residence.
Con was born June 8, 1934, in Marystown, Newfoundland, the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Drakes) Drake.
Con was employed with CN Marine later Marine Atlantic as a steward aboard the vessels until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Con is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Terry) Jessome, Long Island, Lynn (Alex) Finlayson, Florence; three sons, Hughie (Cynthia) Drake, Brian (Bev) Drake, Rick (Pam) Nicholson, all of North Sydney; one sister Betty (Stuart) Tait, North Sydney; special sibling Jean Merritt; his furry friend 'Toby', also by 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a special niece Georgina (Leroy) Musgrave and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Wilkie) Drake, two grandchildren Catherine Ann and Danielle Michelle Jessome, by his brothers, Bill and Patrick Drake, by his faithful companion and friend 'Brandy'.
Visitation for Cornelius will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, April 20 at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
