Sister Mary Agnes Delorey

Sister Mary Agnes Delorey died peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the CND Health Care Centre, Sydney.
Born in Tracadie, N.S., on Jan. 24, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Benoit) Delorey.
Mary Agnes entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1941 and made profession in August, 1943. The love of art she displayed from her earliest years was enhanced through her studies in art education at the Universities of Minnesota and Notre Dave, Indiana. For many years Mary Agnes shared her artistic giftedness in the education system. She began her career as an art teacher in Connecticut and New York before returning to the Maritimes where she cotinued to teach in various schools in Inverness County and Sydney. For over 20 years she taught art at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S.. Mary Agnes was a deeply spiritual woman whose contemplative spirit permeated her works of art, which she generously shared with friends and family.
Upon retiring from teaching, Mary Agnes served in several of her CND communities as local leader and bursar. Throughout those years she continued to do volunteer art teaching. This gentle and unassuming woman was loved and respected by her students, her CND sisters, her friends and family.
In 2007 Mary Agnes suffered a severe stroke and, after lengthy rehabilitation, was admitted to the CND Health Care Centre where she was lovingly cared for by the nursing staff from MacGillivray Guest Home.
Sister Mary Agnes is survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and who loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by sisters, Veronica, Mary Edna, CND, Louise and Lillian, and by brothers, Clarence, Walter and Roland.
Visitation for Sister Mary Agnes will be held Tuesday, April 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Sydney, with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
