Passed on: April 19th, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rae Everett MacKeigan, age 63, on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born July 14, 1951, he was the son of the late George and Leona (Moore) MacKeigan.
Rae was a well known and respected oil burner mechanic with well over 40 years to his credit. Rae loved his work and being outdoors, he was happiest on his tractor going up through the fields and puttering around the barn. He was more comfortable in his work clothes or at home in his pj’s and he had a keen dry sense of humour. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an honorary member of the Ladies Auxiliary, whom he proudly worked side by side with. He was a member of St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 19 years, Josephine (Drover); his three daughters, Raelene, Bras d’Or, Jamie, Coxheath, Kimberly, North Sydney; two stepsons, Ernie, Sydney and Willie, Shearwater; his four granddaughters and six grandsons. Also surviving is his brother David, New Brunswick, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Rae was predeceased by his brother James, a sister Sandra and grandson Morgan.
Visitation for Rae will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Columba United Church with Rev. Tom Whent officiating. As per Rae’s request, cremation will follow.
