Mathieu and Marie Alma (Rondeau) Mathieu, his wife Anita (Granger) Mathieu, his son Laurent Charles Mathieu, his grandson Trenton Dean Bettcher and his siblings, Sr. Marie Blanche Mathieu, Antoinette (Fouquet), Sr. Mary Alice Mathieu, Flore (Morse), Marcelle Mathieu and adopted brother Marcel Whitmore. He leaves to mourn his daughter Gisele and husband Merl Bettcher, his son Louis and wife Pauline and his daughter-in-law Suzanne Mathieu: his grandchildren Michelle (Bettcher) Lozej, Raymond (Jessi) Mathieu, Danielle Mathieu, Rachelle Mathieu and Josh (Caillie Thomson) Mathieu; his great-grandchildren Kolton, Brooklyn and Jayden Lozej, Thomas Bettcher, Zahara Mathieu, Ciarra, Skylar and Hayden Mathieu and his sister Marie-Jeanne Campagne as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Charles was born on July 10, 1921 in Willow Bunch, Sk. He was the youngest and only boy in the family. He went to the local Convent for his elementary school, he completed his high school at College Mathieu Gravelbourg and a year of post-secondary at Campion College in Regina. In 1942, he married Anita Granger and they settled on a ranch west of Willow Bunch. Within a few
years, the family moved into a small house in the town site so he could work with his father who owned a Ford/Monarch Dealership and a farm implement dealership. From town, he continued to farm which became his full time occupation until his retirement in the early 80's. He was a dedicated farmer who always maintained his machinery and farmland in excellent condition. He spent some 50 years as an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the organist for Sunday masses, weddings and funerals at St. Ignace Parish for more than 15 years and often held mid-week practices in his home with the vocalists. He and Anita lived in Willow Bunch until 2001 when they moved to Assiniboia which was followed by a move to Moose Jaw in 2006. Charles lived a good long life with humility and dignity, never forgetting his roots. Prayers were held on April 21, 2015 at W.J Jones & Son Chapel in Moose Jaw. Funeral Mass will be held at a later date at St. Ignace Roman Catholic Church in Willow Bunch followed by interment at the Willow Bunch Cemetery. Memorial tributes on Charles' behalf may be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. In living memory of Charles, a memorial planting will be made by W.J.
