Ruby Alverta Ward - passed away on Tuesday April 21 at Starr’s Point NS. Born in Hillsburn, Annapolis Co, the youngest daughter of Edwin and Minnie (Morgan) Halliday. She was raised in Litchfield by Reginald and Florence Young due to her mother’s failing health but near her three brothers, Donald, Gordon and David. A graduate of Annapolis Royal Academy and Mack Business College, Kentville. She began her working life at the Kentville Research Station and Scotian Gold Co-Op experiencing all aspects of the apple industry until her retirement. Friends and family will remember camping, card games, square dancing, teatimes and no doubt have an afghan to keep them warm. Predeceased by her husband, Donald Ward (2011); survived by daughter, Marsha (Doug) Forsythe; granddaughter, Stephanie Forsythe (Todd MacAllen); grandson, Jonathan Forsythe; step-daughters, Shirley Pearl (Jake Kennie), Judy Parker, Sheila Ward; step-grandchildren, Tanya (Mark) Neary, Sarah (Craig) Cameron, Nicholas (Dawn) Pearl, Alex Pearl and Kelly (Michael) Ross; step-great grandchildren, Madeline and Ben Neary and Kate Cameron, also predeceased by step-daughter, Diane Ward; step son-in-law, Gary Pearl and step-granddaughter, Candice Parker. Ruby was fortunate to have an extended “adopted” family; sisters, Luella (Moran) Hiltz, Marion Young and brother, Eugene Young; nephews, Michael (Jen) Hiltz, Darren (Karen) Hiltz; niece, Barbara (Mike) Gorrell and their children. Thanks to the kindness of Paula and Eric Morine and their helpers at Starr’s Point who treated mom with dignity, respect and compassion. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County at a later date. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of NS or charity of choice.
