Marshall Poirier

Born In: New Waterford

Passed in: New Waterford
Passed on: April 22nd, 2015

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of an exceptional man, our hero, Marshall Edmond Poirier, on April 22, 2015, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Waterford, he was the loving son of Elizabeth and Tass Poirier.
Marshall was employed by Devco for 25 years. This career led him to fulfill his dream of singing with "The Men of the Deeps" which he was a dedicated member for 18 years. From a young age, Marshall excelled at all sports including basketball, soccer, and hockey, but his true enjoyment came from his role as coach to his five grandchildren. He was their biggest fan. Marshall was a dedicated volunteer throughout his life. His involvement with the Coal Bowl Classic brought him much joy and he was very proud of the knowledge that he was being honoured at the 2016 Coal Bowl as an honorary division chair. Marshall was happiest during his daily walks, visits to Tim's, playing a good game of cribbage, throwing a horseshoe, and spending time out on the Mira with family and friends. Marshall had a true talent of bringing happiness to all in his presence through his humour and quick witt.
Marshall is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Betty (MacDonald); his proud mother Liz (O'Connor); and devoted daughters Roselyn (Ray) Burke, Karen (Cecil) Wilson; his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan, Jocelyn, and Adam Marshall; brother Daniel (Rosemary) Poirier; sisters, Carolyn (Ernest) Boudreau, and Michelle (Gary) Bates. Marshall is also survived by his Aunt Bea, several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and very special and dedicated friends.
Marshall was predeceased by his father Tass Poirier; his father and mother-in-law Alex and Elizabeth MacDonald and his firstborn granddaughter Barbara. His heart is now mended and whole once again after being reunited with his girl in eternal heaven.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 2-4 to 7-9 p.m., K.O.C members are asked to meet at 7 p.m. in the funeral home for prayers. A funeral mass to celebrate Marshall’s life will take place Monday, April 27 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard , Mount Carmel Ave. with Father Ray Huntley officiating, followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C hall, Plummer Ave. All are welcome. Burial will be held in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Barbara Burke Memorial Scholarship Fund at Breton Education Centre or the Patient Care Fund at the Regional Hospital.
