It is with profound sadness that we the family of Donna Alexis Routledge announce her passing on April 24, 2015, at home.
Donna was a teacher in the public school system for 36 years starting her career at Caledonia School and finishing at Glace Bay Elementary. As a teacher she devoted her career to educating hundreds of children and enjoyed each day working with them. Donna was often referred to as an old time teacher who knew that reading, writing, and arithmetic was the foundation of their future.
Donna had many special friends going back to elementary school including Bonnie Burke, Maurna Whiting, and Elaine MacQueen with whom she enjoyed many lunches, shopping trips and movies. Travelling with her granddaughter Emilie to tournaments across the maritimes was something Donna looked forward to each hockey season. Quality time with her grandchildren was special for Donna as she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by each child.
Donna is survived by her loving husband Clarence Routledge, daughter Dr. Tanya Routledge (Sheldon Bryan); sons, Christopher (Nadine Carruthers), Scott (Cheryl Rowe); mother Alexis Clarke; brother David Clarke (Margi McIssac); sisters, Nancy Clarke (Bruce Ring) and Ruth Clarke (Dave McNabb). Also survived by cherished grandchildren, Emilie, Jeffory, Parker, Charlee, Bauer Routledge, Alexis Mundle, Chloe and Madison Routledge, and Evelyn Zwicker.
She was predeceased by her father Baxter Clarke.
By following Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. Visitation for Donna will be held in the family home, on Tuesday April 28, 2015, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church Glace Bay.
Family flowers only, donations may be made in Donna’s Memory to MS Society or Cystic Fibrosis.
