GREEN, DEVERN SR.
Mr. Devern Mullen Green, Sr. formerly of Seal Cove Grand Manan Island passed away peacefully at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Friday April 24, 2015. He was born the son of the late Alton and Gladys (Griffin) Green on Wood Island.
Devern was a quiet caring person and worked hard as a lobster fisherman, he also hand lined and trawled. He had the contract to deliver supplies by boat to Gannett Rock and Machias Seal Island for a number of years. He also took Eric Allaby diving to ship wrecks where they salvaged artifacts which went to the Grand Manan Museum and the NB Museum in Saint John. He loved deer hunting and trout fishing, gardening and berry picking. He was very active in his faith as he served in various positions in the Seal Cove Wesleyan Church over the years as Sunday School Superintendent, member of the choir, and also deacon. He also had a passion and will be remembered for his skill at wood carving and Puffin paintings on old jugs, making them into lamps, and other fishing artifacts.
He is survived by his second wife Jean (Shepherd) Green; one daughter Judy Ann Lewandowski (John) of Fall River, NS. Four sons; Devern M. Green, Jr., Perley Green (Bonnie) both of Grand Manan, Elwin Green (Wendy) of Chatham, ON, and Hallet Green (Constance) of Brown Flats. One brother Judson Green of Seal Cove, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Doris, and two sisters Jessie Calder, and Marjorie Green.
Visiting hours will take place on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Ells Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at the Seal Cove Wesleyan Church on Thursday April 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Ingersoll officiating, and Rev. Ward McComiskey assisiting. The interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
