It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Leo Jude Capstick, 65, of Sydney Mines on April 29, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Leo was born in Florence on Jan. 2, 1950 to the late Cecil and Christina (MacKinnon) Capstick.
Leo was very outgoing and brought a smile and left an impression on anyone who crossed his path and loved to tell stories and sing especially to his grandchildren.
Leo loved music, played the guitar, sang, and loved dancing. He was a member of Florence Legion Branch 83 for over 18 years and looked forward to every Saturday night to go listen and join in with his friends in the circle. Leo loved the outdoors and the Cape Breton Highlands and looked forward to hunting and fishing every season with his brothers and close friends.
Leo was a proud union member of the Labourers International Union Local 1115 of Sydney for 40 years and a member of local 92 Alberta for four years.
Leo is survived by his loving wife, friend, and soulmate of 21 years, Deborah, Sydney Mines.; sons, Dean, Sydney Mines, Leo Jr (Cyndi), Sydney Mines; daughter Sherry (Donnie), David, Millville; stepdaughters, Paige (George Pottie) Martens, Bible Hill, and Miranda (Francis Wiliams) MacIsaac, Florence; grandchildren, Rebecca and Justine David, Josh Capstick, Gracie Capstick, Brynn and AJ Martens, Rhileigh and Levie-Anna MacIsaac; brothers, Elmer (Elizabeth), Florence, Maurice (Marjorie), Sydney Mines, Bryce (Georgina), Millcreek, Cecil (Linda), Florence, and his sister Mary Cameron, Florence. He is also survived by his first wife Madonna Capstick and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by three brothers, Maurice, Blair and Gardiner, sisters-in-law Debbie and Patsy, nephew Blair, niece Lisa, and his special companion, Precious, his Bichon.
Visitation for Leo will be held Saturday, May 2 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday May 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave. Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Little Bras d'Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leo's memory may be made to the Patient Comfort Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Cancer Center.
