Passed on: April 29th, 2015

We regret to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Agnes Ayre Inch of Russell, Ont., (formerly of Glace Bay), at the Winchester Memorial Hospital on April 29, 2015 following a short illness.
Born in Bellshill, Scotland on March 2, 1923. Mom was the only child of the late Robert and Elizabeth McGown.
In 1941, Mom met our father, Jimmy Inch, a Canadian soldier, while he was stationed in the UK during the Second World War. They married in 1943 and Mom came to Canada in 1945 to live most of her life in Glace Bay, where she and Dad raised their family. Together, they established Jays Restaurant in 1967, a business that is still in the family.
Mom is survived by her loving sons, Jim (Doreen) of Russell Ont. and John (Joan Butts) of Glace Bay. She was the loved grandmother of Kathy Inch, Newport, RI, Kim (Scott) Howie, Nepean, Ont., Jimmie (Krista) Inch, Cole Harbour, John (Gail) Inch, Truro and Jason (Lacey) Inch, Glace Bay. Mom was also the loving great-grandmother to Jackson, Rebecca, Keith, Ian, Adam, Regan, John T, Ethan, Brooklyn and Ashton. She became a very proud great-great-grandmother in September 2014 to Keira, completing five living generations of the Inch family. Her extended family included a nephew, two nieces and their families.
Mom was a proud member of the Cape Breton War Brides Association and she held many great memories of their monthly gatherings and travels to “the Provincial” in Halifax. She was also active in the Glace Bay General Hospital Auxiliary and the Savoy Theatre and she sang in the choir at Knox United Church for many years. In her early years, she was active in the Kinette Club and the Red Cross.
Beside her parents, Mom was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jimmy, in 1987.
At Mom’s request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Glace Bay at a later date.
Memorial donations made to the Canadian Red Cross Society or to a charity of choice in Mom’s name would be greatly appreciated by her family.
