Gary Douglas Morrell

Morrell, Gary Douglas – 60, Brookfield.
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Gary. He died suddenly but peacefully on May 1, 2015 as the result of a heart attack. Gary was the son of Thelma (Morrell) MacGillivray and Ronnie Morrell. Although Gary drove truck for 40 years, his passion was music. He started Double Heart DJ Services in 1998. This grew to include karaoke and a Limo service. Within the past year, he began doing sound for a local band. On the weekends, if he was not announcing at local 4x4 racing events, he was tinkering around the yard or out for a drive with Helen. Gary spread happiness and laughter wherever he went. He was always happy to see you and left you laughing. His door was always open to anyone; he was a wonderful home-loving family man. He enjoyed having family over for large meals and the kitchen was his during these times. He was predeceased by his mother, Thelma MacGillivray; brother, Terry Lee Morrell (in infancy); sister-in-law, Linda MacGillivray; and step-mother, Marilyn Morrell. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Helen (Sharpe), father, Ron Morrell; step-father, Alvin MacGillivray (Irene); daughters, Stephanie and Tracey (Mark); step-children, Chrissy (Dave) Whitenect, Jim (Gillian) Yorke and Amanda (Rob) Hatfield; brother, Carl MacGillivray; sister, Heather (Tommy) Loughead and brother, Jamie (Karen) Morrell. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Caitlin Yorke, Austin Works, Lily and Hayden Yorke, Mariah and Bradley Hatfield, and DJ Whitenect. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Jason, Krystal, Colin, Rebecca, Ethan, Matthew and David and also great nephews, Tyler and Callum and great nieces, Elexis and Rowan. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 5 from 6 – 8 p.m. with a celebration of Gary's life on Wednesday May 6 at 11:00 a.m. both from the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, Pastor Scott Penner officiating. A reception will follow the service at 53 Pleasant Valley Road, Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Webcasting of the service will begin at 10:58 a.m. (Atlantic Time) and is available along with condolences and donations at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
