It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. Butch passed away on May 3, 2015, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Mary (Nickelo) and the late Art Shibinette.
In his younger years, he was very active in sports, both hockey and baseball, he was recently inducted into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame as a member of “The Big Red Machine” and soon to be inducted as a member of the “Mark Ten Baseball Team”. He enjoyed many years on the golf course.
For 36 years Butch was a teacher with the Cape Breton District School Board. He enjoyed many wonderful times at the bungalow in Irish Vale, with his hunting buddies, Danny, Leo, and Johnny, coffee daily with his mom, and trips with his loving wife.
Surviving are his high school sweetheart, Sandra, his wife of 37 years. His pride and joy son, Adam (Angelina) and Papa Butch’s precious grandchildren, Kale and Aliannah; his furry friend, Maggie; mother, Mary; sisters, Lorna (Keith) MacPherson and Sherri(Brian) MacCormack; seven beautiful nieces who called him Uncle Butchie, Erin, Nicole, Jenna, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Jennifer and Mary.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Mary, Roy and Wendy Wadden.
As per following Butch’s wishes there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at 10am in Holy Cross Church, Seaview Street, Glace Bay. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
