It is with profound sorrow, that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved aunt and friend. Theresa passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015, at her residence, in the senior’s complex, Wilson’s Lane, Dominion.
Born in Dominion, Jan. 9, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Peter Charles and Mary Belle (Cameron) Petrie. She was a faithful lifelong member of St. Eugene’s Church and a longtime resident of Dominion.
Theresa was a very special and unique person to all who knew her. Although she had no biological children she was a mother. Her twin sister’s children, especially Mary was like a daughter to her. Mary took Theresa everywhere, and did so much for her. Theresa loved each of us and was present in every aspect of our lives; family gatherings; holidays and the births of our children and grandchildren. Also there were her sisters and brothers' children in Boston who came down each summer to visit with her. Her home was filled with pictures and photos of her siblings, nieces, nephews and their children, whom she treasured and loved so much.
Theresa had a devoted Christian love for her faith and church. She was an outstanding member of St. Eugene’s C.W.L., having received her 50 year member pin, in recognition of her dedication to her church, parish and parishioners. She attended as many church functions that her health would allow, and for those she could not attend she would send countless donations.
She had an abundant kindness for people; and at her home her fellow residents were like family. Her friends there, were in a class of their own. They loved Theresa, always checking on her, bringing her meals and staying with her when she was alone. We, Theresa’s family, will be forever grateful to them.
Theresa will be sadly missed by her loving at-home family; nieces, Mary (Blair) MacIntyre, Bridgeport, and Theresa (Clem) Burt, Sydney; nephew, John (Lois) Sloan, Dominion. She is also survived by a brother, Michael 'Mickey' Petrie, Boston; brothers-in-law, John Hendriksen, Marty Vardaro, Danny Sullivan and their extended families, all of Boston.
Besides her parents, Theresa was also predeceased by her loving husband, Nelson Wadden; sisters, Jessie, Katie, Isabell, Mary-Ann, and her twin, Mary 'Lizzie'; brothers, Archie, Peter, Duncan in infancy, Angus and Danny DeGast and niece, Jessie Sloan.
In honouring Theresa’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiating by Fr. Daniel Boudreau will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport.
Interment will take place in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion.
A luncheon will follow in the church basement, all are welcome.
Memorial donations in Theresa memory may be made to the St. Eugene’s Cemetery Fund.
