HANES, Barbara Elizabeth “Barb” - Age 68, of Ardoise, Hants Co., passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Windsor, on June 12, 1946 she was a daughter of Victoria “Tory” (Hanes) Smith, Upper Burlington and the late Carl Smith. Barb was a kind, caring woman who always helped people and she always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Barb enjoyed many hours watching Jason play baseball as well as baking and making bread. She also enjoyed spending time with Emily, who adored her Nana and loved spending time with her as well. Barb was Ronnie’s soul mate and will be dearly missed by him and her whole family. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronnie Hanes; son, Jason (Roxanne Findley), Ardoise; daughter, Amanda (Justin) Dobson, Mount Uniacke; granddaughter, Emily Dobson; brothers, Owen (Susanne) Smith, Windsor; Kevin (Carol) Smith and Timmy (Nancy) Smith, all of Upper Burlington; sister, Sylvia Shanks, Three Mile Plains; brother-in-law, Layton (Jodi) Hanes, Gore; sisters-in-law, Dianne (Don) Smith, Ardoise; Ellen Smith, Upper Burlington; other extended family, nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides her father, Barb was predeceased by brothers, Eddy Wayne and Bobby Smith; brother-in-law, Ralphie Shanks. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where visitation was held Wednesday, May 6 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Barb’s life was held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Garnet Parker officiated. Following the service, coffee and tea was served in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Burial took place in Hillview Cemetery, Scotch Village.
