Scott "Scottie" Alexander Kerr

Kerr, Scott “Scottie” Alexander—Born May 28, 1927 in Bridgeville, Pictou Co., NS, passed away at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre on May 3, 2015. Scott was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker, card player, bowler, and vocal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He and Doreen were regulars in the Truro and Brookfield leagues at the Bowlacade in Bible Hill. While growing up in Pictou Co. Scott attended local square dances and became known for prompting square dances. He loved to dance. As a young man, Scott worked in the woods in Pictou Co. before moving to the Truro area where he worked at Riversdale Lumber Company until it ceased milling operations. Following the mill closure, Scott went back to school and upgraded his education and took a course in Small Appliance Repair at Point Edward. This fit in with his natural talent for fixing things. He ended his working career as a custodian working for the Colchester Vocational School retiring in 1992. After the passing of his wife Marion, Scott married Doreen Hay in August 1991. He spent 24 wonderful years with Doreen. They were devoted to each other and their families, with both enjoying bowling, dancing, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends. His devilish grin and sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. Scott was predeceased by his parents, Alec and Christena "Tena" (nee MacDonald); brother, George; wife Marion (nee Dean); and daughter Marion “Ann” Daly. He is survived by his wife Doreen; sister Mary (Alfred) Rose; sons Stephen (Theresa Murray) and Brian Kerr; stepdaughters Patricia (Paul) Hanham and Jeanette(Michael) Connolly; stepsons Eugene (Susan) Hay and William (Lynne) Hay; granddaughters Amanda (Kevin) Morris and Robyn (Kyle) Debolt; grandson Dean Kerr; great granddaughter Melia Morris and great grandson Kelton Morris; and nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Stroke Unit and E-wing Transitional Care for their kindness and support. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, NS, with Dr. David Sutherland officiating. A reception will follow. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
