Bessie Mae (Kaulback) Smith

Smith, Bessie Mae (Kaulback) – 85 of Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche and formerly of Truro and Middle Stewiacke passed away peacefully on May 5, 2015. Born January 16, 1930 in Middle Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Catherine (McAllister-Taylor) Kaulback. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Tom; grandson, Thomas; half brothers, Hugh and John Taylor; brothers, Edward, William, Robert, Stewart and Lewis; sister, Mary Albert, daughter-in-law, Helen. Bessie was a mentor and loyal friend who was always there to help others. Mom caringly touched the lives of all who knew her and was a dedicated loving mother and grandmother who will be forever missed and highly respected by her family. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and being outdoors landscaping and gardening. Family and friends were always welcome in her home and she was a pillar of strength for her family. She is survived by children, Judith (David) Leedham, Thomas, Betty Ann Richards (Jim Crilley), Charles, David (Angela), Dean; 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude for the loving care our mother received at Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10 from 6-8 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro; memorial service on Monday, May 11 at 2 pm in Middle Stewiacke United Church, Rev. Keith Gale officiating. Interment in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Research or Middle Stewiacke United Church.
