THOMAS, EDNA FAYE
1918-2015
Edna Faye Thomas (Weston) of Fredericton, NB, widow of Roscoe B. Thomas passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, May 8, 2015 following a brief illness. She was 96.
Born in Upper Gagetown, NB on June 30, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Brooks) Weston. Edna was a registered nurse, training at Moncton City Hospital, which was affiliated with the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, and graduating as an RN in 1941. She thoroughly enjoyed her nursing days in Moncton and Fredericton. She had many happy memories of her life with loved ones and friends in Nashwaaksis, and later Devon. She enjoyed knitting, doing needlepoint, and piecing and stitching quilts. She was a charter member of the Nashwaaksis Baptist Church, and was involved in church activities throughout her life. She was a Life Member of the Harvey Missionary Group, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Celestial Chapter #3 Fredericton.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Frances MacDonald (Bertram) of Woodstock, NB, and son, Milton Thomas (Patty) of Fredericton; grandchildren, Tim DeWitt (Leona) of New Maryland, Wendy Giberson (Ken) of Woodstock, Debbie Smith (Bruce) of Fredericton, David DeWitt (Sandra) of Hanwell, Rebecca Gamble (Tony) of Moncton, Kate Thomas of Kelowna, BC and Maggie Thomas (Eric Ryan) of Fredericton; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Margaret Rose Thomas; brothers, Henry and Paul Weston; sisters, Florence McCordic, Arlena Coy and Ida Weston.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Tom Barry, who faithfully provided Edna’s medical care for more than 35 years, to the Fredericton Extra Mural Program for its ongoing support, to the staff of Windsor Court, who surrounded Edna with comfort and security over the past seven years, and to the staff of 4SW at the DECH, who cared for her during her final days.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11 am with Rev. Lawrence Meade officiating. Interment will follow at the Tracy Baptist Cemetery.
