Christy Mary MacKenzie, 86, of Grand River, N.S. It is with heavy hearts we
announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great -great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend on May 8, 2015, at Strait Richmond Hospital, following a major stroke.
Born in Mount Auburn, Christy was the daughter of the late Alec MacDonald and Sarah Monroe.
She is survived by her sister, Norena MacLeod (Billy), Grand River; her children, Frankie (Betty Lou), Ituna, Saskatchewan, Donald (Geraldine MacPhee), Oban, Gordon, at home; Roger (Marianne), Stuart, Florida, Cindy (Kenny Martell), Rockdale, Mary Margaret Clements (Richard), Moncton. Christy is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, as well as many nieces and nephews and many many friends across Canada, the USA, and Europe.
She was predeceased by her husband A.C., daughter Mary Elaine in infancy, son Arthur, and daughter Sally. She was also predeceased by brothers, Donald and wife Mary, Melvin and wife Annabelle, sisters, Dinah and husband Duncan Matheson, Rae and husband Jimmy Baldwin, Rhodena and husband Ian Macleod.
Christy was very active in her community, contributing many volunteer hours to many
different organizations: the Grand River Seniors’ Club, L'Ardoise Jolly Club, P.C. Women's Association of Nova Scotia (life member), Royal Canadian Legion branches 110 and 47 (life member), Strait Richmond Hospital - Senior Advisory Board, Richmond County Seniors' Council, Grand River Dart League and Holy Guardian Angels Parish.
Per Christy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside committal service will be
held on Wednesday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cemetery with a reception to follow.
Donations in Christy's memory may be made to St. Peter's Cemetery Fund, the Strait
Richmond Hospital - palliative care unit, Richmond Villa - activity department or charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
