Greg Ardelli, Aug. 13, 1944-May 8, 2015, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a valient struggle with cancer.
Born and raised in Whitney Pier, Greg was the son of the late Marian and Julia (Gniewek) Ardelli. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael Gregory in 1997.
After attending Sydney Academy, Greg worked for a short time at Sydney Steel Plant and then in 1962 joined the RCAF and was stationed in Quebec. He later moved to Toronto, studied as a machinist at George Brown College and was employed by several companies as a precision machinist.
Greg was married and had one child, Michael in 1972. In the late 1970s he returned to Sydney and worked at Sydney Engine and finished his working career as an employee of Bernie’s Bakery.
Greg is survived by his brother, Stan, Burnaby, B.C., his sister, Leona and her husband, Bob, Calgary, Alta., and their children, Julianne, Bob Jr., Carolyn, Charles and their families. He is also survived by several Gniewek and Ardelli cousins and by a very special cousin, Lorraine Guyaux who has helped Greg so much through the years.
Memorial service to celebrate the life of Gregory ‘Greg’ Myron Ardelli will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.
Donations in memory of Greg may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or a charity of your choosing.
The family wishes to thank Greg’s friends and neighbours for their kindness to him. Also, heartfelt appreciation goes out to the medical personnel of unit 4C and Hospice Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Your attention and compassion is noteworthy.
