The Memorial Service was held Friday, May 8, 2015 from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld. The Life Tribute was presented by Janice Clothier. Eleanor is survived by her children Glenn (Estelle), Connie (Tom Pain) and Ron (Kimberley Marsden); grandchildren; Tanya (Brent) Dykema, Michelle (Josh Vandendort) Button, Jared (Stephanie) Button, Brett Button and Whitney and Keegan Marsden; Great Grandchildren Jade Button-Bowditch, Brandon, MacKenzie and Danille Dykema, Jaxon Button, Chaz and Skylar Vandendort; sister Marlyllis Busch; brother-in-law Irwin Radke and two sisters-in-law Gladys (Lorne) Tait and Eileen Newton. She was predeceased by her husband Wilson; parents Ben and Emma Newton; two sisters Harriett and Juna; two brothers Arling and Woodrow. Eleanor was born on the Newton homestead at Hallonquist, Saskatchewan on May 16, 1922, the daughter of Ben and Emma Newton. Eleanor had 3 older siblings: Harriett, Juna, and Arling and 2 younger siblings: Woodrow and Marlyllis. She received her education at Nybo School. Eleanor was very involved on the family farm tending the sheep and horses as well as helping with the gardening. Eleanor married Wilson Button on July 17, 1945, and moved to his farm in the Vanguard, Sask. area. The couple had 3 children: Glenn born in March of 1949, Connie born in April of 1952, and Ronnie born in June of 1958. Years of hard work and a labor of love produced a show home farm site. The spruce grove was started in 1947 and Eleanor spent numerous hours hoeing in, the tree plots. Eleanor was always willing to help Wilson outdoors whether it was in the fields or, around the farmyard. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flower beds and quilting. After Wilson died in September 2003, Eleanor moved into Vanguard, Sask. where she continued to enjoy her flower gardens, fill her bird feeders and watch a variety of feathered friends visit. Eleanor loved to go out to the farm to watch Glenn and Ronnie work in the fields. She would sit for hours in her truck watching them either seed or harvest. Eleanor was even riding on the combine with the boys right up until last fall. While still in Vanguard, Eleanor enjoyed visits with friends, relatives, and especially looked forward to time spent with her 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The many memories created at the family farm as well as at her home in Vanguard will be cherished by the entire family for years to come. Thank you to the Cypress Regional Hospital and to the Gull Lake Special Care Centre for the exceptional care that Eleanor received. Eleanor will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. In her memory, memorial donation may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
