Michael James MacDonald, age 60 of Glen Morrison Road, East Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Norman and Margaret (Campbell) MacDonald.
He was a member of St. Mary’s parish, East Bay. Mike was a former coach with the Sydney & District Little League Baseball and the C.B. County Minor Hockey Association. He was a member of the East Bay Volunteer Fire Department and was also involved in Operation Lifesaver through Sydney Coal Railway. Mike worked for 24 years with Devco and previous to that was with the CNR. He finished his career as a locomotive engineer with SCR.
Mike is survived by his wife, the former Kathy Long; daughter, Teresa, Ft. McMurray; sons, Norman, at home; Michael, Ft. McMurray; sisters, Susan Campbell and Sadie, both of East Bay; Kathy (Wayne) MacAdam, Portage; brothers, Bob (Martyne), Sydney; Norman (Sandra), East Bay and by numerous wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Peter Campbell.
Visitation for Mr. MacDonald will take place Wednesday, May 13 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, East Bay.
Donations may be made to the C.B. Hospice/Palliative Care Society at the C.B. Regional Hospital or the Cancer Patient Care Fund.
