Our Dear mother, Rita, passed peacefully and gracefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on May 11, 2015, in her 96th year in Topsail, originally from Horse Cove, now St. Thomas' Line. She is predeceased by her parents, Michael Quilty and Laura Kelly; parents in-law Arthur Duff and Bridgette Etheridge; her husband of 57 years Peter F. Duff (1995); sons Harold aged 44 years (1991), Arthur aged 59 years (2011); daughter in-law Janet Brophy aged 47 years; sisters Regina Laden (Winnipeg), Mary Kelly (Freshwater), Lucy McCarthy and Agnes Kelly Power; brother Gerald Quilty and brother in-law Charles Antle. Leaving with very precious memories are her children Gladys Bruce (Basil), St. Catherine's, Joan Fitzgibbon (Joe), Ottawa, Gordon (Margaret Legge), Judy Duff, Cindy Dunne (Aiden), Daniel (Bonnie Winsor) and Karen Poirier; loved by 23 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Survived by her sister Carmel Antle; brothers Michael (Ellen), Nicholas (Shirley), and Edward (Jenny); sisters in-law Phyllis Quilty and Irene Duggan; nieces Betty Mullins and Geraldine Davis. Special Thanks to all the medical staff at Bliss Murphy Center, in particular Dr. Joy McCarthy, Dr. Ganguly and Dr. Greenland, for their care and compassion. Our deep appreciation and thanks to Dr. Stephen Furlong and staff, Lisa and Michelle, for their support. Special Thanks also to Regina Guinchard, Community Health Nurse, for her continued care and support to our family. Also, thank you to Dr. Cheryl Hurley for Palliative Care support at home. A heartfelt thank you to VON volunteers Lorraine Best, Diane Mahoney and Evelyn Friesen for their support and companionship. Many thanks to Carmel Antle and family for their support and love throughout this time. Our mother Rita, is a sweet and gentle person, who will forever be remembered for her loving ways, her humor and kindness. Resting at Carnell's Visitation and Reception Centre, 1045 Topsail Road, on Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, St. Thomas' Line, Paradise. Interment to follow at St. Thomas of Villa Nova Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Rita's name may be made to the Cancer Society or to Holy Family Parish.
