Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: May 10th, 2015

It is with deep sadness that we are announcing the passing of our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Simon Gerald 'Sacko' Hache. Simon peacefully passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital, Sunday, May 10, 2015.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Samuel and Judique (Chiasson) Hache. He was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Sacko drove a taxi his whole working life; he started at a young age driving for Hache’s Taxi in Reserve Mines, then owned by his brother, and later as owner and operator from 1978, until his retirement in 1990.
He was a member of the Reserve Mines Pensioners Club, where he enjoyed his times spent playing darts every Sunday night until he recently became too ill. Sacko enjoyed sports, especially hockey, and he was a long-time fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
Simon will be sadly missed by his loving family, son Allen (Karen), Stellarton, N.S.; daughters, Pauline (Jimmy) Kostey, Glace Bay, Gina (George), Reserve Mines; granddaughters, Michelle, Lisa, Raven, Katie; grandson, Shawn and great-grandson, Luke; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; especially Edgar MacNeil who would take Dad for his afternoon coffee, and Joseph 'Rubber' McIntyre, who would take him for his evening coffee, where he always enjoyed his conversations, with all of his friends at the local Tim Horton’s. Sacko will also be missed by numerous individuals in the Reserve Mines area, because he was like a father and grandfather to many.
Besides his parents, Sacko was also predeceased by his son, Gerald 'Poogie'; brothers William, Alex, Benedict and Skit; sisters, Katie, Margaret, Mary and Elizabeth.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Dan Boudreau will be celebrated Friday, May 15, 2015, at 2 p.m., in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Following the funeral mass, interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sacko’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society, the Cape Breton Cancer Center, or a charity of choice.
At this time we would like to sincerely thank the nursing staff of 3 South, Glace Bay Hospital, Dr. Moamer, the V.O.N. and the doctors and nurses with palliative care for their loving and compassionate care given to our Dad.
